One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting inside a Los Angeles grocery store Friday evening, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The shooting occurred at a Ralphs grocery store in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles around 6:30 p.m. PT, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two victims with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, a woman in her 30s, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Lopez said.
The suspect in the shooting fled the scene before officers arrived. Police are still searching for the suspect and have not released any information about a possible motive.
The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents at grocery stores in the United States. In May, 10 people were killed in a shooting at a Tops Friendly Markets store in Buffalo, New York. In March, 10 people were killed in a shooting at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado.
The shootings have raised concerns about the safety of grocery stores and prompted some retailers to increase security measures. Walmart, the nation's largest grocery retailer, announced last month that it would hire 2,000 new armed guards to patrol its stores.
