Alfredo Morelos: I'll grab the bragging rights!
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, 24, cannot wait for the chance to win over his family as he prepares for his third crack at old foes Celtic
The Colombian has been a star for Steven Gerrard’s side since moving from Finland in the summer of 2017 and has scored 77 goals for the Ibrox side.
He will spearhead the Rangers attack when they head to Parkhead for the first time this season looking to pick up the bragging rights against their fierce rivals – something he knows will go down well with his family.
He said: “My family is big on football. My father was a footballer and he is a Rangers fan. My mother and my brothers are as well, so they will all be watching the game.
“It will be good to win for them. They will all be saying, ‘You need to score a goal and win the bragging rights.’ I hope to make them happy.
“It is special to play in these games and to play in front of the Celtic fans. I have played there twice before, but unfortunately I haven’t won there yet.
“We will go into the game with a lot of confidence and belief. We know it will be difficult, but we are Rangers and we need to go into the game to win.”
Morelos has become a favourite of the Rangers support for his goalscoring exploits – netting 11 in 37 appearances so far this term – coupled with his passionate performances and he reckons he couldn’t be at a better club.
“I am very happy at Rangers. I am happy in the city and the people here have treated me very well,” he said. “I am happy in the team and I am happy playing football. For me, I am in the best place of my career.”
Morelos has forged a fine partnership with Kemar Roofe in attack and the pair have scored most of Rangers’ goals this season.
He said: “I understand Kemar very well. He is a very good player, he is very fast and has a lot of quality.
“We try to help each other in training and the games. It is working well and we hope to continue playing well and scoring goals.”
It’s not just in attack where Morelos has improved, he also feels he has become a more rounded player since making the move to the Scottish Premiership.
He said: “I think I have improved a lot since I came to here. I have developed a lot on and off the pitch.
“I have learned a lot about football and about life. I am happy with the improvements I have made.”
Rangers are aiming to win their first league title in a decade and Morelos knows he needs to play his part, adding: “I need to keep scoring goals and help the team. We are all together, we are a team and we want to win games together.”
