Babatunde Aleshe, Lucy Beaumont and Shaparak Khorsandi win BBC New Comedy Award 2022
Aleshe, Beaumont and Khorsandi were the three winners of the 2022 BBC New Comedy Award. The award was announced on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 24th August.
The BBC New Comedy Award is a prestigious award for up-and-coming comedians in the UK. The award has been running since 1995 and has helped to launch the careers of some of the biggest names in British comedy, including Peter Kay, Lee Mack and Sarah Millican.
This year's award was judged by a panel of comedy experts, including comedian and actor Jo Brand, comedian and writer Nish Kumar, and comedian and presenter Sue Perkins.
The three winners of the 2022 BBC New Comedy Award are:
- Babatunde Aleshe - A stand-up comedian, writer and actor. He has appeared on shows such as Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week and The Last Leg.
- Lucy Beaumont - A stand-up comedian, writer and actor. She has appeared on shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, Would I Lie to You? and Taskmaster.
- Shaparak Khorsandi - A stand-up comedian, writer and actor. She has appeared on shows such as Have I Got News for You, QI and Live at the Apollo.
The three winners will each receive a prize of £1,000 and a slot on the BBC Radio 4 Extra Comedy Showcase.
