Bird is the word! Former Test quick snares seven-fa in Shield demolition
Queensland demolish West Australia with Matthew Kuhnemann taking 7-fa
Matthew Kuhnemann took match figures of 10-181, including 7-74 in WA's second innings, as Queensland wrapped up a comprehensive victory over West Australia in the Sheffield Shield on Monday.
Resuming the final day of the match at the Gabba, WA needed an unlikely 381 runs for victory but were bowled out for just 183 to give Queensland a 197-run win within three days.
Matthew Kuhnemann showed his class to help Queensland to a dominant win
After an impressive performance in the absence of injured spinner Mitch Swepson, Kuhnemann has put down a marker for higher honours during Australia’s upcoming Test tour of India.
The left-armer, who made his Test debut against the West Indies last year, was the pick of the Queensland bowlers, taking seven wickets in WA's second innings, following his 3-107 in the first.
The 26-year-old Kuhnemann bowled with impressive accuracy and control, and was able to trouble the WA batsmen with his variety and flight.
Queensland's victory was a complete team effort
Kuhnemann was well supported by the Queensland bowlers, with seamer Mark Steketee taking 2-36 and legspinner Mitchell Swepson claiming 1-32.
The Queensland batsmen also played their part, with Joe Burns scoring 65 in the first innings and Marnus Labuschagne making 50 in the second.
The victory was a timely boost for Queensland, who have now won two of their three matches this season.
