Bringing Woodsboro to 'Mortal Kombat': An Interview With Developer Joe Epstein

Scream Meets Mortal Kombat

In a crossover that has horror fans and fighting game enthusiasts alike buzzing, the iconic Ghostface from the Scream franchise is joining the roster of Mortal Kombat 11. Developer Joe Epstein recently sat down with us to discuss how this unexpected collaboration came to be and what players can expect from Ghostface in the game.

A Shared Love of Horror

"We've always been big fans of Scream at NetherRealm Studios," Epstein said. "The films are a perfect blend of horror and humor, and we thought it would be a great fit for Mortal Kombat." The team reached out to the rights holders of Scream, and to their surprise, they were met with enthusiasm.

Translating Ghostface to Mortal Kombat

Bringing Ghostface into Mortal Kombat 11 presented a unique challenge for the developers. "We had to find a way to translate his iconic appearance and personality into the game's fast-paced, over-the-top combat system," Epstein explained. "We also wanted to make sure he felt like a natural part of the Mortal Kombat universe."

Ghostface's Signature Moves

In Mortal Kombat 11, Ghostface wields a variety of weapons, including his iconic knife, a cordless phone, and a video camera. "We wanted to give players a range of options for how they wanted to play him," Epstein said. "He can be a stealthy assassin, a devious trap-setter, or a brutal brawler."

The Ghostface Experience

Epstein is confident that players will enjoy playing as Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 11. "He's a unique and versatile character that offers a lot of replay value," he said. "Whether you're a long-time fan of Scream or a newcomer to Mortal Kombat, we think you'll have a blast with Ghostface."
