Woman Allegedly Attempted to Smuggle Methamphetamine
A 62-year-old British woman was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2023, after attempting to smuggle methamphetamine into the United States, according to police.
The woman, identified as Sharon Evans, was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers after they discovered approximately 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) of methamphetamine concealed within the lining of several T-shirts in her luggage.
Evans Faces Drug Trafficking Charges
Evans has been charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, which is a federal crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
She is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2023, for a detention hearing.
