Chelsea too strong for Celtic in Champions League
Chelsea passed their first test of the Women's Champions League group stage with flying colours on Wednesday night, beating Celtic 2-1 in Glasgow.
Goals from Guro Reiten and Lauren James gave the Blues a comfortable lead at the break, and although Celtic pulled one back through Jacynta Galabadaarachchi in the second half, the visitors held on to claim all three points.
The win puts Chelsea top of Group A, and they will now be looking to maintain their good form when they host Servette next week.Celtic started the game brightly and had the first chance of the match when Clarissa Larisey fired wide from the edge of the box.
However, Chelsea soon took control of the game and began to create chances of their own.
The first goal came in the 12th minute when Reiten curled a free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards.
Chelsea doubled their lead just six minutes later when James latched onto a long ball from Magdalena Eriksson and slotted home.
Celtic pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute when Galabadaarachchi headed home from close range following a corner.
However, Chelsea held on to claim a deserved victory.
