Diamond League Final: Avinash Sable finishes 9th, Kenya's Serem beats El Bakkali

Sable clocks 8:21.29 to end his season

Indian steeplechaser Avinash Sable ended his season with a ninth-place finish in the Diamond League Final in Zurich on Thursday. The 28-year-old clocked 8:21.29, well behind the winning time of Kenya's Conseslus Kipruto, who won the race in 8:09.11. Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali, the Olympic champion, finished second in 8:09.28, while Kenya's Leonard Bett settled for third place in 8:10.06.

Serem wins women's 3000m steeplechase

In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Kenya's Daisy Jepkemei Serem pulled off a stunning upset, beating El Bakkali by more than three seconds. Serem, who had the fastest time in the world this year, clocked 8:52.96, while El Bakkali finished second in 8:56.09.

Serem's victory was a surprise, as El Bakkali had been in impressive form this season, winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Oregon and setting the world record in the 3000m steeplechase earlier this year.

Sable's ninth-place finish was a disappointing end to his season, but the 28-year-old will be hoping to bounce back next year and challenge for a medal at the World Championships in Budapest.
