Fire bring on Gregg Broughton as sporting director
Fire appoint English executive as sporting director
Broughton joins Fire after successful spell at Vancouver Whitecaps
The Chicago Fire have appointed Gregg Broughton as their new sporting director. Broughton joins the Fire after a successful spell at Vancouver Whitecaps, where he helped the Canadian club reach the MLS Cup final in 2015.
Broughton has a wealth of experience in player recruitment and development, having worked in various roles at clubs in England, Scotland and Canada. He is also a former player, having represented England at youth level.
The Fire are hoping that Broughton can help them improve their fortunes on the field. The club has not won a major trophy since 2000 and has struggled to compete in recent years. Broughton will be tasked with identifying and signing new players, as well as developing the club's youth system.
Broughton said he is excited to join the Fire and is confident that he can help the club achieve success. "I am delighted to be joining the Chicago Fire," Broughton said. "This is a club with a rich history and a passionate fan base. I am confident that we can build a team that can compete for trophies."
