Ford Motor Company announced today that it will increase production of its popular Ranger pickup truck at its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan. The automaker said it will invest $850 million in the plant and add 150 new jobs to support the increased production.
The investment will allow Ford to increase production of the Ranger by 50%, from 250,000 to 375,000 units per year. The additional production will help Ford meet the growing demand for the Ranger, which has been a top seller in the midsize pickup truck segment since its reintroduction in 2019.
The new jobs will be added to the plant's current workforce of 4,500 employees. The plant has been producing the Ranger since 2011, and it is also home to the production of the Ford F-150, the best-selling vehicle in the United States.
Ford's investment in the Michigan Assembly Plant is a sign of the automaker's commitment to U.S. manufacturing. The company has invested more than $1 billion in its U.S. plants in the past year, and it has announced plans to invest an additional $3.5 billion in its U.S. operations by 2026.
"This investment is a testament to the hard work of our employees and the strength of the Ranger brand," said Kumar Galhotra, president of Ford Americas. "We're proud to continue investing in our U.S. manufacturing operations and creating new jobs for American workers."
The increased production of the Ranger is expected to begin in 2025. The new jobs will be added to the plant's workforce gradually over the next two years.
