Grand Canyon, Arizona State to Match Up in Inaugural Event
Division I basketball programs within the Valley kick off the 2023-24 season against each other at a professional venue as GCU and Arizona State will face off in a doubleheader on Nov. 14 at the Footprint Center, home of the Phoenix Suns.
Details of the Event
The GCU-ASU matchup will be part of a doubleheader that begins with the GCU women's team taking on the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at 5 p.m. The men's game between GCU and ASU is set for 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased through the Footprint Center website. GCU season-ticket holders will have a presale opportunity to purchase tickets beginning Aug. 16. ASU season-ticket holders will have a presale opportunity beginning Aug. 17.
What to Expect
This is the first time that GCU and ASU will play each other in men's basketball since 2013. The Lopes hold a 4-2 lead in the all-time series.
The Lopes are coming off a 22-win season in which they won the WAC Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Sun Devils went 20-13 last season and finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Pac-12.
Significance of the Event
The doubleheader between GCU and ASU is a significant event for both schools and for the Valley's college basketball scene.
The game will provide an opportunity for both teams to get a quality early-season test against a conference opponent.
It will also be a chance for fans to see two of the top college basketball programs in the state go head-to-head in a unique setting.
