Man Sentenced to Six Months in Jail for Filing False Insurance Claim
A Green County man has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to one count of insurance fraud. The man, 44-year-old Robert Taylor, was arrested in May 2023 after an investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice. According to the criminal complaint, Taylor filed a false insurance claim in 2022, alleging that his boat had been stolen. Taylor claimed that the boat, a 20-foot fishing boat, was valued at $20,000. However, investigators determined that Taylor had sold the boat several months prior to filing the claim.
Taylor was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a Class H felony. He pleaded guilty to the charge in December 2023 and was sentenced to six months in jail. Taylor was also ordered to pay restitution to the insurance company in the amount of $20,000.
