After an extensive search, the Chicago Fire FC have appointed Gregg Broughton as their new Sporting Director.

Broughton brings a wealth of experience to the Fire, having previously served as Sporting Director for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, where he oversaw all aspects of the club's soccer operations.

Under Broughton's leadership, the Whitecaps consistently made the playoffs, including a run to the MLS Cup final in 2015, and also reached the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League in 2016.

Prior to his time in Vancouver, Broughton held various roles with Toronto FC, including as Assistant Sporting Director and Head of Player Recruitment.

The Fire are confident that Broughton's expertise and experience will help the team build a competitive squad and achieve long-term success.

"Gregg is a highly respected soccer executive with a proven track record of success," said Fire FC President and General Manager Nelson Rodriguez. "His experience in player acquisition, development, and team building will be invaluable to our club."

Broughton said he is excited to join the Fire and is eager to get started on building a winning team.

"The Fire have a great tradition and a passionate fan base," said Broughton. "I am excited to be a part of this club and to work with our staff, players, and fans to bring success to Chicago."

Broughton will officially begin his role with the Fire on January 1, 2023.
