Rahul said he was impressed with Gill's temperament and technique, and backed him to become a "world-class" player.

In the first Test against Bangladesh, he scored 110 in the first innings and 70 in the second innings.

Gill's ODI form has also been impressive, with him averaging over 50 in 12 matches this year.

He has scored two centuries and four half-centuries in ODIs in 2022.

He recently scored 112 against New Zealand in the third ODI.
