Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Portions of Puerto Rico, USVI; Flash Flood Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, including the islands of Vieques and Culebra, effective from 8:00 AM AST until 8:00 PM AST on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
Heavy rainfall is expected across the region, with some areas receiving up to 6 inches of rain. The heaviest rainfall is expected to occur during the afternoon and evening hours.
Residents in the affected areas should be prepared for flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Flash flooding can occur quickly, so it is important to be aware of the weather forecast and take precautions.
The National Weather Service advises residents to:
- Stay informed about the weather forecast.
- Be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
- Avoid driving through flooded areas.
- If you must drive, slow down and be aware of the hazards.
- Never attempt to walk or drive through flooded areas.
