The final supermoon of the year will rise at 9:55 p.m. Saturday
The supermoon in October is known as the Hunter’s Moon. A supermoon occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth, making it appear larger and brighter than usual. The Hunter’s Moon got its name because it signaled the time to hunt and gather food for the winter.
The biggest and brightest moon of the year
Supermoons are always beautiful, but this one will be especially impressive because it will be the closest supermoon of the year. It will be about 7% larger and 15% brighter than a typical full moon.
What to expect
If you decide to go on the hike, Lost Lake will be illuminated by the bright light of this supermoon. The moonlight will make it easy to see, so you won’t need to use a flashlight. The weather forecast for Saturday night is clear and cool, with temperatures in the low 40s.
Beginners and experienced hikers alike can enjoy this hike. Plus, dogs on leashes are welcome.
What to bring
Come prepared by wearing sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and bring layers of clothing to adjust to the changing temperatures. As always, be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks.
