Indian politician did not refer to the late Muslim emperor as his 'brother'
Viral video of Lagadapati Rajagopal has been digitally altered
A video of Indian politician Lagadapati Rajagopal, who is a member of the largest opposition party in India, the Indian National Congress, has been circulating online in which he appears to refer to the late Mughal emperor Aurangzeb as his 'brother'. This video has been used to portray Rajagopal as a supporter of the Mughal Empire and Islam, which has been met with criticism as Aurangzeb was known for his intolerance to non-Muslims.

However, the video has been digitally altered and does not accurately reflect what Rajagopal said. The original video, which was posted on YouTube on February 8, 2022, shows Rajagopal speaking at the unveiling ceremony of a statue of Aurangzeb in Hyderabad, India.
In the original video, Rajagopal does not mention Aurangzeb as his 'brother'. Instead, he says that Aurangzeb was a "great emperor" who ruled India for 49 years and was a "patron of art and culture".
The video was later edited to include the phrase "my brother Aurangzeb" and re-posted on social media. This edited video has been used by Rajagopal's political opponents to portray him as a supporter of the Mughal Empire and Islam.
Rajagopal has denied the allegations that he is a supporter of the Mughal Empire or Islam. He has said that he is a proud Hindu and that he respects all religions.
