Jarrett Allen to Miss Extended Time for the Cleveland Cavaliers
Allen Suffers Hip Injury in Loss to Philadelphia 76ers
Injury Expected to Keep Allen Out for Several Weeks
Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen suffered a hip injury in the team's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. The injury is expected to keep Allen out for several weeks, according to a statement from the team.
Allen was injured in the first quarter of the game. He was attempting to block a shot by 76ers center Joel Embiid when he landed awkwardly and injured his hip.
Allen was helped off the court and did not return to the game. He underwent an MRI on Sunday which confirmed the injury.
The Cavaliers said in a statement that Allen is expected to miss several weeks with the injury. The team did not provide a specific timetable for his return.
Allen's injury is a major blow to the Cavaliers, who are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
Allen is averaging 16.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game this season. He is also one of the best defensive players in the league.
With Allen out, the Cavaliers will likely turn to Isaiah Hartenstein to start at center. Hartenstein is a solid backup, but he is not the same caliber of player as Allen.
The Cavaliers will need to find a way to replace Allen's production if they want to make a run at the playoffs.
