Jason Gillespie picks two ‘unplayable’ bowlers in modern-day cricket

Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has named two bowlers he believes are ‘unplayable’ in modern-day cricket.

Gillespie, who played 71 Tests and 97 ODIs for Australia, said that Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi and India’s Jasprit Bumrah are the two bowlers who have impressed him the most in recent times.

“Shaheen Afridi is a left-armer who can swing the ball both ways and bowl at speeds of up to 150km/h,” Gillespie said. “He’s a nightmare for batsmen to face.”

“Jasprit Bumrah is another bowler who is very difficult to play. He’s got a unique action and can bowl yorkers at will. He’s a world-class bowler.”

Gillespie said that both Afridi and Bumrah have the ability to change the course of a match with their bowling.

“They’re both match-winners,” Gillespie said. “They can take wickets at any time and they can put pressure on the opposition batsmen.”

Afridi has taken 78 wickets in 36 Tests and 62 wickets in 40 ODIs. Bumrah has taken 123 wickets in 30 Tests and 114 wickets in 67 ODIs.

Gillespie said that he believes Afridi and Bumrah are the two best bowlers in the world right now.

“They’re both young and they’re both only going to get better,” Gillespie said. “I’m excited to see what they can achieve in the future.”
