King Willem-Alexander pops in on King Frederik as a whirlwind royal tour begins
Dutch king Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima have arrived in Denmark for a three-day state visit.
The couple were welcomed by King Frederik and Queen Margrethe at Copenhagen Airport on Tuesday, and will spend the next few days visiting various landmarks and meeting with Danish officials.
This is the first state visit to Denmark by a Dutch monarch since 2008, and is seen as a sign of the close ties between the two countries.
The royal tour will include visits to:
- The Royal Palace in Copenhagen
- The Tivoli Gardens
- The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
- The Carlsberg Brewery
- The University of Copenhagen
The visit will also include a state banquet at Christiansborg Palace, and a meeting between the two kings to discuss issues of mutual interest.
The Dutch royal family is expected to leave Denmark on Thursday.
