KL Rahul Recounts Heartbreaking IPL 2016 Final Loss, Reflects on Journey with Virat Kohli
Rahul Recalls Painful Defeat
KL Rahul has opened up about the "heartbreaking" experience of losing the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) final, which he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
In a recent interview, Rahul said, "It was a tough one to swallow. We had a great team, and we were confident going into the final. But it just didn't go our way on the day."
RCB lost the final to Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight runs, despite Rahul's heroic 54 off 33 balls. Rahul admits that the loss still stings.
Rahul's Journey with Virat Kohli
Rahul also reflected on his journey with Virat Kohli, who was the captain of RCB at the time. The two have been close friends since they first played together for India Under-19s.
Rahul said, " Virat is a great leader and a great friend. He has always been there for me, on and off the field. We have talked so many times about that IPL final. It's something that we both want to put behind us and move on."
Kohli and Rahul have since played together for India in several major tournaments, including the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Looking Ahead
Rahul is now the captain of Punjab Kings in the IPL. He is hoping to lead his team to their first IPL title this season.
Rahul said, "I have learned a lot from my experiences with RCB. I am now a more mature player and a better leader. I am confident that I can lead Punjab Kings to success."
The IPL 2023 season is set to begin on March 31. Punjab Kings will open their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on April 1.
