Authorities call for witnesses following 'unacceptable' dumping

Several tons of rubbish have been fly-tipped on a major Nottinghamshire road.

Nottinghamshire County Council said it had received reports of fly-tipping on the A46 in Farndon, Newark and Sherwood, at around 4pm on Monday (March 6).

It is estimated that around a metric ton of rubbish was dumped on land near the road, including bin bags, cardboard, wood and other waste.

The council said it had launched an investigation and was appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about those responsible to come forward.

Council crews are working to clear the fly-tipping, but it is likely to take several days.

Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, the council's cabinet member for transport and environment, said: "This is a totally unacceptable incident of fly-tipping which has cost the taxpayer money to clear up.

"We have launched an investigation and will do everything in our power to track down those responsible.

"We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and help us catch those responsible, so they can be held to account."

Anyone with information is asked to call the council's customer service center on 0300 500 80 80.
