History in the Making
The Arizona Baseball College Hall of Fame is set to welcome four new members: Pete Incaviglia, Esteban Loaiza, Bruce Bochy, and Doug Melvin. The Hall’s annual induction ceremony and banquet will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson.
Incaviglia's Impressive Career
Pete Incaviglia had a stellar career at Arizona State University, where he was a two-time All-American and led the nation in home runs in 1984 and 1985. He went on to have a successful MLB career, playing for several teams including the Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, and Philadelphia Phillies. Incaviglia was known for his powerful bat and was one of the most feared hitters in the league during his prime. He was also a member of the 1986 World Series champion New York Mets.
Loaiza's Major League Success
Esteban Loaiza was a dominant pitcher during his time at Arizona State University, earning All-American honors in 1993. He went on to have a successful MLB career, pitching for several teams including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, and Chicago White Sox. Loaiza was a two-time All-Star and won 21 games for the White Sox in 2003. He was known for his powerful fastball and was one of the most feared pitchers in the league during his prime.
Bochy's Managerial Accomplishments
Bruce Bochy had a successful career as a catcher at Arizona State University, but it was as a manager that he truly made his mark. Bochy managed the San Diego Padres from 1995 to 2006 and the San Francisco Giants from 2007 to 2019. He won three World Series championships with the Giants in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Bochy is one of the most successful managers in MLB history, and his induction into the Arizona Baseball College Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to his accomplishments.
Melvin's Front Office Success
Doug Melvin had a successful career as a general manager in MLB, serving in that role for the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers. Under Melvin's leadership, the Brewers won the National League Central Division in 2011 and 2018. Melvin is known for his ability to build successful teams and his induction into the Arizona Baseball College Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to his accomplishments.
