Malaga Flooding Latest: Red Weather Alerts in Costa del Sol and Valencia as Thousands Evacuated
Torrential Rain Causes Widespread Flooding in Southern Spain
Torrential rain has caused widespread flooding in southern Spain over the last two days, with red weather alerts issued by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) for the provinces of Malaga, Valencia, and Cadiz.
The heavy rainfall has led to the evacuation of thousands of people from their homes in Malaga and Valencia, as floodwaters rise to waist-high levels in some areas.
The worst-affected areas in Malaga are Fuengirola, Mijas, and Marbella, where floodwaters have inundated streets, homes, and shops.
Thousands Evacuated as Floodwaters Rise
In Valencia, more than 2,000 people have evacuated their homes, with particular problems in the low-lying areas around the city center.
The fire service has been called out to rescue people from their homes, and many roads in the region have been closed due to flooding.
In Cadiz, the town of Chiclana de la Frontera has been affected by flooding, with the authorities forced to close a number of roads and evacuate several homes.
Flood Warnings Remain in Place across Southern Spain
AEMET has maintained red weather alerts for Malaga and Valencia, with warnings that heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the day.
Flood warnings are also in place for the provinces of Cadiz, Almeria, and Granada.
The heavy rainfall is being caused by a cold front that is moving across Spain, bringing with it torrential rain and thunderstorms.
