Marshfield Shooting Kills 3, Injures 11 at Birthday Party
Three people were killed and 11 others were injured in a shooting at a house party in Marshfield, Massachusetts, early Sunday morning, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.
The shooting occurred at a home on Green Harbor Road around 12:30 a.m., officials said. The victims were all adults, and their identities have not yet been released.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Keon Dashawn Johnson of Brockton, was taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with three counts of murder and 11 counts of armed assault with intent to murder.
Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Monday. It is not clear what motivated the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
The shooting has shocked the community of Marshfield, a small town about 30 miles south of Boston. Town officials have expressed their condolences to the victims' families and friends.
"This is a tragic event that has shaken our community to its core," said Marshfield Town Manager Michael Maresco. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
The shooting is the latest in a series of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States in recent months. In May, 19 children and two teachers were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. In July, seven people were killed in a shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.
The gun violence epidemic in the United States has sparked renewed calls for stricter gun control laws. However, efforts to pass such laws have been met with resistance from gun rights advocates.
