Meth-Soaked T-Shirts Found Hidden in Luggage at Los Angeles Airport, Feds Say
DEA Seizes Over $80K Worth of Methamphetamine
Pair Arrested After Attempting to Smuggle Drugs Through LAX
Two people were arrested at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents discovered methamphetamine-soaked T-shirts hidden in their luggage, authorities said.
According to the DEA, the arrests were made on January 19th after agents received a tip that two individuals were attempting to smuggle drugs through LAX. Agents intercepted the suspects, a man and a woman, as they were preparing to board a flight to Mexico.
During a search of the suspects' luggage, agents discovered several T-shirts that had been soaked in liquid methamphetamine. The DEA estimates the street value of the seized drugs to be over $80,000.
"This seizure is a significant blow to drug trafficking organizations that are attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into our country," said DEA Special Agent in Charge John D'Amico. "The DEA is committed to working with our partners at LAX to prevent the flow of drugs into our communities."
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Juan Garcia and 32-year-old Maria Rodriguez, were arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. They are currently being held in federal custody pending trial.
The DEA is continuing to investigate the case and is working to identify other individuals who may be involved in the drug trafficking operation.
