New traffic powers to tackle drivers ignoring road safety rules in Leighton Buzzard
Leighton Buzzard drivers ignoring road safety rules will face increased enforcement activity
Central Bedfordshire Council is giving new powers to traffic officers to tackle drivers flouting road safety rules in Leighton Buzzard.
The move comes after concerns were raised about the number of drivers ignoring red lights, speeding and driving dangerously in the town.
Traffic officers will now be able to issue fixed penalty notices for a range of offences, including:
- Driving through a red light
- Speeding
- Dangerous driving
- Using a mobile phone while driving
- Not wearing a seatbelt
The new powers will help to improve road safety in Leighton Buzzard and make the roads safer for everyone.
Councillor Ian Dalgarno, Executive Member for Community Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, said:
“We are committed to improving road safety in Leighton Buzzard and these new powers will help us to achieve this.We will not tolerate drivers who put the lives of others at risk by ignoring road safety rules.”
The new powers will come into effect on 1st April 2023.
