Scorchers add another Kiwi to their squad, after the signing of Stephen Fleming as coach

The Perth Scorchers have signed New Zealand World Cup hero Matt Halliday for the upcoming Big Bash League season.

Halliday was one of the breakout stars of the World Cup, taking 17 wickets in seven matches at an average of 15.29.

The 26-year-old right-arm quick will join a Scorchers squad that already includes a number of New Zealanders, including coach Stephen Fleming.

Halliday said he was excited to join the Scorchers and play under Fleming.

"I'm really looking forward to joining the Scorchers and playing under Stephen Fleming," Halliday said.

"He's a great coach and I'm sure I'll learn a lot from him."

Fleming said he was delighted to add Halliday to the Scorchers squad.

"Matt is a quality bowler and he's a great addition to our squad," Fleming said.

"He's a proven performer at international level and I'm sure he'll be a valuable asset to the Scorchers."

Halliday is expected to join the Scorchers squad in early December.

The Scorchers will begin their BBL campaign on December 17 against the Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium.
