Pakistan thrash Australia by nine wickets: second men’s ODI – as it happened
Australia bundled out for 117; Pakistan cruise home for loss of just one wicket
Pakistan romped to a nine-wicket win over Australia in the second one-day international in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, leveling the series 1-1.
After Josh Hazlewood removed Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq for a duck in the first over, Australia struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for 117 in 31.5 overs.
Fakhar Zaman (55 not out) and Babar Azam (51 not out) shared an unbeaten stand of 118 to guide Pakistan to victory with more than 25 overs remaining.
It was Pakistan's first win over Australia in an ODI since 2016 and their biggest margin of victory over the tourists in this format.
The third and final ODI will be played in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Australia won the toss and chose to bat, but their innings never got going.
Hazlewood's early breakthrough gave Australia a glimmer of hope, but Zaman and Azam batted with patience and precision to blunt the Australian attack.
Zaman struck seven fours and two sixes in his 47-ball knock, while Azam hit five fours and a six in his 52-ball innings.
Pakistan's bowlers were also impressive, with Shaheen Afridi taking 4-33 and Haris Rauf claiming 2-17.
The win is a major boost for Pakistan, who were hammered by Australia in the first ODI on Friday.
It also gives them a chance to win the series when the two teams meet again on Tuesday.
