President Biden calls for investments in skills training at White House summit
Biden says the United States needs to invest in its workforce to compete in the 21st-century economy.
The president spoke at a White House summit on workforce development.
President Biden on Thursday called for investments in skills training and education to bolster the U.S. workforce and compete in the 21st-century economy.
"We need to make sure that every American has the skills they need to succeed in today's economy," Biden said at a White House summit on workforce development.
The president said the United States is facing a "skills gap" and that too many Americans are not prepared for the jobs of the future.
"We need to invest in our people," Biden said. "We need to invest in their skills and their education."
The president's remarks come as the United States grapples with a shortage of skilled workers in a number of industries, including manufacturing, construction, and healthcare.
The Biden administration has proposed a number of initiatives to address the skills gap, including expanding access to affordable education and training, and providing tax breaks to businesses that invest in their workers.
The White House summit on workforce development brought together business leaders, educators, and government officials to discuss ways to improve the U.S. workforce.
The summit focused on four key areas: apprenticeships, workforce training, career pathways, and lifelong learning.
