Six charged after 180 kilos of cocaine worth millions seized at Birmingham Airport
Three men and three women, aged between 26 and 47, have been charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine
The arrests were made after 180 kilograms of the drug were seized at Birmingham Airport on 2 December.
The haul, worth an estimated £14.4 million, was found hidden in a consignment of clothing and other goods.
The six suspects are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 17 January.
The National Crime Agency said the seizure was part of an ongoing investigation into organized crime groups involved in the importation and distribution of cocaine
NCA Branch Commander Richard Harrison said:
"This was a significant seizure of cocaine, which would have had a devastating impact on communities across the country.
"We are committed to working with our partners to disrupt organized crime groups and protect the public from the harm caused by drug trafficking."
The arrests are part of a wider crackdown on drug trafficking at Birmingham Airport
In the past year, the NCA has seized over 1 tonne of cocaine at the airport.
Harrison added:
"We are determined to make it as difficult as possible for organized crime groups to operate at Birmingham Airport.
"We will continue to work with our partners to target and disrupt their activities and protect the public from the harm they cause."
