Blaze Breaks Out in Port Richmond, Flames Engulf Duplex

Firefighters Battle Intense Heat, Smoke

A massive structure fire ripped through a duplex in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood early Thursday morning, injuring three people and displacing four families.

The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. on the 2800 block of Ruth Street in Port Richmond. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames engulfing the second floor of the building.

The blaze quickly spread to the first floor, forcing firefighters to battle intense heat and smoke. Three people were injured in the fire, including one firefighter who suffered minor burns.

The fire was brought under control after about an hour, but not before it caused extensive damage to the building. The four families who lived in the duplex have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
