Tesco unveils a sweet way to help charities fighting hunger this Christmas

Tesco launches the ‘Sweet Little Gesture’ initiative to help end hunger in the UK.

Tesco has launched a new initiative called ‘Sweet Little Gesture’ to help charities fighting hunger in the UK this Christmas. This initiative involves the sale of a unique range of Christmas puddings, with 10p from the sale of each one going to FareShare, the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

FareShare redistributes surplus food from supermarkets and manufacturers to charities and community groups who are supporting those in need. Last year, FareShare redistributed 110 million meals to frontline charities and community groups across the UK.

The puddings are available in three varieties:

The puddings are available in Tesco stores nationwide now, priced at £2.50 each. Tesco hopes to raise £1 million for FareShare through this initiative.

Claire De Silva, Tesco’s Director of Purpose, said:

“We know that hunger is a big issue in the UK, and we are committed to doing what we can to help. Our ‘Sweet Little Gesture’ initiative is a simple way for our customers to make a difference this Christmas. By buying one of these puddings, they can help FareShare to provide food to those who need it most.”

Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive of FareShare, said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Tesco on this initiative. Hunger is a serious issue, but it is one that we can solve together. By working with Tesco, we can reach even more people with the food they need to make a real difference.”

Customers can also support FareShare by donating food or money at their local Tesco store. For more information, visit www.fareshare.org.uk.
