Tesla plant in Austin evacuated after 'hazardous' gas leak
Tesla factory in Austin, Texas was evacuated on Monday following a hazardous gas leak at the plant, according to the Austin Fire Department.
The leak was reported around 2:30 p.m. local time, and the fire department responded with multiple units to the scene. Tesla employees were evacuated from the plant, and the area around the plant was closed off to traffic.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the company later confirmed the evacuation and said that there were no injuries.
The type of gas that leaked has not been released, but the fire department said that it was "hazardous." The fire department is currently investigating the cause of the leak.
This is the second time in recent months that the Tesla plant in Austin has been evacuated due to a gas leak. In June, the plant was evacuated after a hydrogen leak was discovered.
Tesla has been ramping up production at its Austin plant in recent months. The plant is expected to produce the company's new Cybertruck, as well as the Model Y and Model 3.
