Washington rallies from halftime deficit
The Washington Huskies staged a stunning second-half comeback to defeat the Seattle Pacific Falcons 77-62 on Wednesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Huskies trailed by 11 points at halftime, but they outscored the Falcons by 20 points in the second half to secure the victory.
Washington was led by senior guard Jaylen Nowell, who scored 23 points and dished out six assists. Sophomore forward Isaiah Stewart added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard Quade Green chipped in 15 points.
Seattle Pacific was led by senior guard TreVaughn Alexander, who scored 19 points. Sophomore forward Aaron Dunn added 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Bryce Narcisse chipped in 11 points.
Momentum shift in second half
The Huskies started the game slowly, falling behind by 11 points at halftime. But they came out firing in the second half, outscoring the Falcons by 20 points to secure the victory.
The momentum shift was sparked by a 10-0 run by the Huskies early in the second half. Stewart started the run with a dunk, and Nowell followed with a three-pointer. Green then hit a jumper, and Stewart capped the run with another dunk.
The Falcons never recovered from the Huskies' run, and Washington went on to win the game by 15 points.
Defense key to victory
The Huskies' defense was key to their victory over the Falcons. Washington held Seattle Pacific to just 34.8% shooting from the field, and they forced the Falcons into 15 turnovers.
The Huskies also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Falcons by 43-28. Stewart led the way for Washington with 11 rebounds, while Nowell and Green each added seven rebounds.
The Huskies' defense was particularly impressive in the second half, when they held the Falcons to just 25.0% shooting from the field.
Outlook for the future
The Huskies' victory over the Falcons was a much-needed boost for their NCAA Tournament hopes. Washington is now 18-11 overall and 9-7 in Pac-12 play, and they are in good position to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.
The Huskies will have a chance to improve their NCAA Tournament resume when they play at Oregon on Saturday.
