Yorkshire family among six arrested as police seize huge cocaine haul in suitcases
Police have arrested six people, including a Yorkshire family, after seizing 180 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of £14 million.
The drugs were found in suitcases at a property in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, on Tuesday, March 7.
The arrests were made as part of a joint operation between the National Crime Agency (NCA) and West Yorkshire Police.
The NCA said the drugs were destined for the UK market and that the arrests had prevented "a significant amount of harm".
NCA Branch Commander Martin Clarke said: "This was a substantial seizure of cocaine which would have been sold on our streets, causing misery to our communities.
"We are committed to working with our partners to disrupt the supply of drugs and bring those responsible to justice."
West Yorkshire Police Detective Superintendent Mark McManus said: "This was a significant seizure of Class A drugs and I would like to thank the NCA for their support in this operation.
"We are committed to tackling the supply of drugs in West Yorkshire and will continue to work with our partners to make our communities safer."
The six people arrested have been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and are due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on April 4.
