Nathan Lyon tells new Australia captain Pat Cummins what he really wants after helping Aussies to victory over England at the Gabba

Lyon has called on Cummins to lead from the front and help Australia regain the Ashes

Former Test quick Nathan Lyon has told new Australia captain Pat Cummins what he really wants after helping the Aussies to victory over England at the Gabba.

Lyon took seven wickets in the match, including the key wicket of England captain Joe Root in both innings, as Australia won by nine wickets.

The victory was Australia's first in the Ashes since 2017, and Lyon said it was a "great feeling" to be back in the winners' circle.

"It's been a tough few years for us, but we've worked really hard and we're starting to see the results now," Lyon said.

"Pat's been a great leader so far and I'm really excited to see what he can do in the years to come."

Lyon said he was particularly impressed with Cummins' leadership in the field.

"He's always got the team behind him and he's always looking for ways to improve," Lyon said.

"He's a great role model for the younger players and I think he's going to be a very successful captain."

Lyon said he hopes Cummins will continue to lead from the front and help Australia regain the Ashes.

"We've got a great team and I think we can do it," Lyon said.

"We've just got to keep working hard and playing as a team."

Cummins said he was grateful for Lyon's support and said he was looking forward to working with him to help Australia win the Ashes.

"Nathan's a great leader and he's got a lot of experience," Cummins said.

"I'm really looking forward to working with him and learning from him."

Cummins said he was also looking forward to leading Australia in the Ashes.

"It's a huge honor and I'm really excited about the challenge," Cummins said.

"We've got a great team and I think we can do something special."
