'It did affect the entire group': KL Rahul on owner's IPL chat
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has spoken about the animated half-time chat that the franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka had with the team during a match in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Rahul admitted that the chat did have an effect on the team but clarified that the players were able to turn things around in the second half and eventually win the match.
In a recent interview, Rahul said, "It (the chat) did affect the entire group. But at the same time, we had a chat among ourselves and we knew that we needed to stick together as a group. Credit to the boys for the way they performed in the second half and got us over the line."
He further added, "As a team, we need to make sure that we are not getting affected by any outside noise. We just need to focus on our performance and keep improving."
The incident in question took place during LSG's match against Delhi Capitals on April 7. Goenka had reportedly expressed his displeasure with the team's performance in the first half of the match and had a heated exchange with the players. However, LSG managed to turn things around in the second half and eventually won the match by six wickets.
Rahul's comments suggest that the team has moved on from the incident and is focused on the task at hand. LSG currently occupies the third position in the IPL 2023 points table and is well-placed to qualify for the playoffs.
