Seattle U men's basketball ready to challenge for WAC title under new coach Sprinkle
Sprinkle brings winning pedigree, high expectations to First Hill
After a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, the Seattle University men's basketball team is looking to bounce back in a big way under new head coach Danny Sprinkle. Sprinkle, who was hired in March after a successful five-year stint at Northern Kentucky, brings a winning pedigree and high expectations to First Hill.
In his five seasons at NKU, Sprinkle led the Norse to a 108-59 record, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and two Horizon League tournament championships. He was also named Horizon League Coach of the Year twice.
Sprinkle's success at NKU is due in large part to his up-tempo, high-scoring style of play. The Norse averaged over 80 points per game in each of Sprinkle's five seasons, and they ranked among the top 10 in the nation in scoring offense in three of those seasons.
Sprinkle is excited to bring his winning ways to Seattle U. He believes that the Redhawks have the potential to be a contender in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and make a run in the NCAA Tournament.High expectations for Redhawks in 2023-24
The Redhawks return four starters from last year's team, including leading scorer Cameron Tyson and All-WAC defensive team selection Riley Grigsby. Sprinkle has also brought in a talented group of transfers, including former Oregon State standout Jarod Lucas and former Santa Clara standout Keshawn Justice.
With a veteran core and a talented group of newcomers, the Redhawks have high expectations for the 2023-24 season. They were picked to finish second in the WAC preseason poll, and they are considered to be one of the favorites to win the conference tournament.
Sprinkle is confident that the Redhawks can reach their goals this season. He believes that the team has the talent, the experience, and the work ethic to be successful.
