The Little Mermaid Gets An R-Rated Makeover In Full Trailer For Lionsgate's Horror Adaptation

A first look at Ariel's transformation has arrived.

The first full-length trailer for the upcoming R-rated horror adaptation of Disney's The Little Mermaid has been released, and it's not for the faint of heart.

The trailer opens with a voiceover from Ariel (played by newcomer Francesca Stavrakis), who says, "I've always dreamed of being a human." But her dream quickly turns into a nightmare when she meets the Sea Witch (played by Jessica Alexander), who grants her wish but at a terrible price.

The trailer is full of jump scares, gore, and violence.

In one scene, Ariel is shown being chased by a giant squid. In another, she is impaled on a broken bottle. And in a particularly gruesome scene, she is shown eating the heart of a sailor.

The trailer has been met with mixed reactions from fans. Some are excited about the new take on the classic fairy tale, while others are concerned that it is too violent and disturbing.

The film is set to be released in theaters on March 31, 2023.
