Vanina Biasi: Deputies, defections in the three convening blocs caused the session in Deputies to fall

The Frente de Todos lost the quorum in the Chamber of Deputies, after several deputies who had signed the call for the special session did not show up to vote on the controversial project to expand the Supreme Court.

The session had been convened by the ruling party, the Frente de Todos, with the aim of discussing the project to expand the Supreme Court from five to 15 members. The opposition Together for Change and Federal Interbloc had expressed their rejection of the initiative, but both spaces had given a quorum of support to debate the issue.

However, during the vote on the call for a special session, several deputies from the three convening blocs did not show up, causing the Frente de Todos to lose the necessary quorum. The session was thus automatically lifted and the project to expand the Supreme Court was not discussed.

The defections that caused the fall of the session in Deputies were mainly from the Federal Interbloc, where three deputies did not attend the vote: Carlos Selva (United Provinces), Enrique Estévez (Civic Forward) and Julio Cobos (UCR - Mendoza).

From Together for Change, only one deputy did not appear: Pablo Tonelli (PRO - CABA), who had previously expressed his rejection of the Supreme Court enlargement project.

From the Frente de Todos, two deputies were absent: Eduardo Toniolli (Santa Fe) and Vanesa Massetani (Buenos Aires), who had signed the call for the special session but did not attend the vote.

The failure of the session in Deputies is a setback for the Frente de Todos' plans to expand the Supreme Court, an initiative that has been highly criticized by the opposition and by different sectors of society.
