KL Rahul credited his experience of playing under Rahul Dravid and Kane Williamson in the IPL for helping him develop his skills.
In a recent interview, Indian opener KL Rahul has credited the experience of playing under Rahul Dravid and Kane Williamson in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a key factor in developing his skills in the Twenty20 format.
Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013 with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and has been a key player for the Punjab Kings since 2018. During his time in the IPL, Rahul has had the opportunity to work closely with some of the game's greatest minds, including Rahul Dravid and Kane Williamson. He believes that his experience with these two legends has helped him to develop a well-defined game plan and a solid foundation in the fast-paced format of T20 cricket.
Rahul said, “Playing with Rahul Dravid was a very good learning experience for me. He is very calm, composed and a great leader. I have learnt a lot from him about match planning.”
In addition to Dravid, Rahul also heaped praise on Kane Williamson, the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahul said, “Kane is an exceptional captain and a great leader. He is always in control of his emotions and makes the right decisions under pressure.”
Rahul added that he has picked up a lot of invaluable knowledge from these experienced leaders. “I have learnt a lot about how to captain a team from both Rahul Dravid and Kane Williamson. They are both great captains and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from them.”
Rahul's success in the IPL
Rahul's success in the IPL is a testament to his talent and hard work. In the 2022 season, he was the leading run-scorer for the Lucknow Super Giants, scoring 616 runs at an average of 51.33. He was also in excellent form for India in the T20 World Cup, scoring 236 runs in six matches.
Rahul's ability to score runs quickly and consistently has made him a vital cog in the Indian team. He is a key player in India's plans for the 2023 World Cup, and he will be hoping to continue his impressive form in the IPL.
